Pop star Taylor Swift's endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz only sways more voters away from the Democratic presidential ticket, according to the results of a new poll. The Grammy-winning artist shared her decision to endorse the Democratic nominees on Sept. 12, two days after Harris and former President Donald Trump faced off in their first and only presidential debate. She also urged her 283 million followers on Instagram to do their research on the issues at hand and the stances their potential candidates take on relevant topics. "Like many of you, I watched the debate. If you haven't already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country," Swift wrote. "I will be casting my vote for Harris and Walz in the 2024 presidential election." The pop star justified her decision by claiming that Harris is "a steady-handed, gifted leader" that can lead "by calm and not chaos," adding that "she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them." She likewise lauded Walz for "standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF and a woman's right to her own body for decades." (Related: Kamala Harris releases three pro-abortion ads targeting Trump while advocating a free-for-all of nationwide baby murder.) But results of a YouGov poll released on Sept. 15 found that only eight percent of voters are "somewhat" or "much more likely" to support the Democratic ticket after Swift's endorsement. This contrasts with the 20 percent who said they are "somewhat likely" or "much less likely" to vote for Trump because of it. The same survey found that 41 percent of respondents believe that Swift should not speak publicly about politics. Only 38 percent think it is appropriate for her to make endorsements. While Swift's endorsement of the Harris-Walz ticket backfired, her post led to a flood in traffic at the voter registration website vote.gov, according to the New York Post. A spokesperson said more than 330,000 visitors stopped by the site after clicking a custom link Swift shared on Instagram.

Trump hates Taylor Swift for endorsing Harris and Walz

Aside from endorsing the Democratic candidates, Swift also warned the public about the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI). The warning followed former President Donald Trump posting an AI-generated endorsement from Swift on his social media platform, Truth Social. "Recently I was made aware that AI of 'me' falsely endorsing Donald Trump's presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth," Swift wrote in her post. The morning after the debate, Trump stated in a call to Fox News' "Fox & Friends" show that he was not a Swiftie. Days after Swift endorsed Harris, Trump clapped back at the singer on his Truth Social platform in all caps on Sept. 15: "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!"
