Biden sends $15 million to Bangladesh despite its links to terrorist organizations and history of corruption and human rights abuses

The administration of President Joe Biden has approved a $15 million taxpayer-funded grant to Bangladesh to prevent so-called climate change despite the country's long track record of corruption, human rights abuses and ties with terrorist organizations. The $15 million comes from the Enabling Environment for Climate Resiliency Activity program, a government program for enhancing climate resilience. Bangladesh, a majority-Muslim South Asian nation, has been tagged by the State Department's Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) as a significant source of anti-Western terrorist group activity. In OSAC's 2019 report, Bangladesh was noted for having historic ties with several very dangerous terrorist organizations, including the Islamic State and Al Qaeda's branch organization in the Indian subcontinent, as well as several domestic militant groups like Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami Bangladesh, Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh and Ansarullah Bangla Team. Moreover, Bangladesh has faced criticism for human rights violations with the U.S. Treasury Department sanctioning the elite anti-crime and anti-terrorism police unit, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), for alleged human rights abuses. The RAB, formed in 2004, is accused of over 600 disappearances since 2009, nearly 600 extrajudicial killings since 2018, and instances of torture, with reports suggesting the targeting of opposition party members, journalists and human rights activists. But despite all this, the Biden administration still granted the funds to address the "growing climate crisis" in Bangladesh. The funded climate action seeks to distribute resources equitably among marginalized social groups, including historically excluded communities, in climate change planning. In line with this, the administration highlights its commitment to fostering transformational changes toward net-zero emissions and building a climate-resilient nation. "Climate change planning in Bangladesh is top-down and not inclusive. This activity will facilitate prioritizing and elevating the voices of historically excluded communities, including marginalized and underrepresented groups disproportionately affected by climate change," the grant read. (Related: Newman: “Climate change” scam will enable globalist United Nations to enforce its will on humanity.)

Bangladeshi nationals also pose a significant security threat in the U.S.

Aside from links with terrorist organizations and a history of human rights violations, Bangladeshi migrants are also trying to enter the U.S. through the southern border. In 2019, a congressional investigation revealed that there had been a 300 percent rise in Bangladeshi migrants trying to enter Texas alone. The report also claims that people from countries associated with terrorism were attempting to cross the southern border in large numbers. Shortly after the release of the report, federal authorities arrested a Bangladeshi smuggler named Milon Miah upon his arrival at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. He was charged with bringing in 15 fellow Bangladeshis through the U.S.-Mexico border. Milon Miah resides in Tapachula, a city in the southeast Mexican state of Chiapas, which borders Guatemala. The indictment accused Miah of allegedly conspiring to bring 15 Bangladeshi nationals into the U.S. through the southern border from March 2017 to August 2018, accepting payment for his illicit services. Miah purportedly provided shelter, food and plane tickets to the aliens before arranging for their transport to locations in northern Mexico. From there, other smugglers facilitated their entry into the United States. “Human smuggling rings endanger the security of the United States,” said Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division at that time. This, in turn, gave critics another reason to question whether a country associated with terrorism and human rights abuses and facing an increase in migrants potentially linked to security concerns deserves millions of taxpayer dollars for climate change initiatives. "Does this sound like a country that deserves millions of our taxpayer dollars to fight climate change?" Judicial Watch wrote.
