Report: Border Patrol has apprehended almost 16,000 illegals from China since October 2023
U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agents
have apprehended at least 16,000 Chinese migrants illegally crossing the border since Oct. 1, 2023, according to
Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This marks a significant increase in migrant apprehensions under the Biden administration.
According to unofficial reports obtained by
Breitbart Texas, USBP agents
have arrested an estimated 15,800 Chinese nationals since the beginning of Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 on Oct. 1. The alarming figure represents nearly two-thirds of the total Chinese migrants apprehended during the entire FY 2023, which ended on Sept. 30. Official data from CBP revealed 9,844 migrant arrests in October and November alone, while almost 6,800 apprehensions were recorded as of Dec. 1, 2023.
The number of Chinese migrants being arrested has increased significantly since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021. Compared to only single-digit monthly apprehensions at the start of Biden’s term, the numbers have skyrocketed to at least several thousand per month in FY 23 and FY 24. The surge in apprehensions started slowly from dozens per month in FY 21 to hundreds in FY 22 – leading to in an increase to thousands in the subsequent years. (Related:

The USBP report pointed out that the majority of those apprehended from China are single males. Border Patrol officials who spoke off the record attested to this, noting that many of them are of military age. The figures, however, do not include the numbers from the unofficial December 2023 and January 2024 reports reviewed by
Breitbart.
Changes to vetting process for Chinese illegals behind the increase
The surge in apprehensions highlights a significant shift in migration patterns and challenges under the Biden administration. Internal policy changes, such as the government revising the vetting process for illegals, are also responsible for these increases.
An internal CBP email revealed that the Biden administration drastically
simplified the vetting process for Chinese illegals in April 2023. The email sent by a CBP supervisor to a "master list" made up of at least 500 Border Patrol agents instructs them to reduce the number of interview questions for Chinese migrants arrested from almost 40 to only five.
The "headquarters guidance" was released as border agents were flooded with near-record numbers of illegal crossings. But retired CBP deputy patrol agent-in-charge J.J. Carrell warned that the revised process has also expedited the release of Chinese illegal immigrants into the U.S. while making it harder for CBP agents to identify national security threats.
According to Carrell, the U.S. government is aware of the threat posed by Chinese soldiers and spies pouring into America. While Washington wants to try and identify these individuals, it also does not want to stop the flow of illegals from the south. Identifying the "bad ones" is impossible, Carrell pointed out, as "dangerous Chinese illegal immigrants will still be released into the U.S." in the end.
Ultimately, the retired CBP agent noted that the policy is simply the government covering for itself so that it can claim that it vetted illegals.
The former law enforcement officer who sent the April 2023 email, and who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of government reprisal, also pointed to the policy's downsides. Human smuggling operations were able to abuse these new guidelines by coaching Chinese illegal immigrants on how to correctly answer CBP's shorter list of questions.
