Israel expects war in Gaza to continue for many more months – so the IDF can slaughter yet more innocent civilians while claiming "self-defense"

Israel's top military commander, Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, has cautioned that the protracted war in Gaza is anticipated to extend for "many more months." The rationale behind this prolonged timeline, as articulated by Halevi, lies in the comprehensive and determined effort required to thoroughly dismantle the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Since the conflict erupted on October 7, the toll on human lives has been substantial, with close to 21,000 casualties reported in Gaza, according to local health officials. Despite growing international pressure to de-escalate the conflict and domestic calls for a deal to free hostages held in Gaza, Netanyahu and other leaders vowed to continue the fight. The military appeared ready for an intensified push into the central and southern parts of the Strip. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, addressing Knesset lawmakers, characterized the conflict as a "long, tough war" with heavy costs but emphasized its justification. He stated that Israel would continue to punish Hamas for its October 7 attack, whether it takes months or years.
