An Israeli diplomat has rejected any idea of peace talks with Palestine, stressing that
the sole objective of Israel is "to destroy Gaza."
Dror Eydar, the former Israeli ambassador to Italy from 2019 to 2022, made these remarks during an appearance on the Oct. 25 episode of the
Rete 4 news program "Stasera Italia." He said on the show: "We in Israel, at least the population, are not interested in the rational discussion. For us, there is only one objective – to destroy Gaza, to destroy this absolute evil."
Eydar then proceeded to cite the Holocaust as justification for Jerusalem's war against Hamas, which came in response to the terrorist group's Oct. 7 attack on a music festival in Israel.
"There is no chance that after the Holocaust, Jewish people will live a similar experience as they were 80 years ago. After Oct. 7, every person in the world who threatens a Jew … or kills a Jew has to die." (Related:

Eydar wasn't the first to cite the Holocaust as a justification for the genocide of innocent Palestinians due to the actions of a few. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken
was the first one to do so, during his Oct. 12 meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"I come before you not only as the U.S. secretary of state but also as a Jew. I understand, on a personal level the harrowing echoes that Hamas' massacres carry for Israeli Jews – indeed, for Jews everywhere," Blinken told the Israeli leader, citing two of his relatives who experienced the Holocaust firsthand.
"I also come before you as a husband and father of young children. It's impossible for me to look at the photos of families killed and not think of my own children."
Netanyahu ups the ante, cites the Bible to justify Gaza genocide
While Eydar and Blinken cited the Holocaust during WWII to justify the genocide of Gaza, Netanyahu brought it to a whole new level
by citing the Old Testament. He announced the invasion of the Gaza Strip on Oct. 28, referencing
the first book of the prophet Samuel.
"You must remember what Amalek has done to you, says our Holy Bible," Netanyahu said. The Israeli prime minister then proceeded: "Now go and smite Amalek and utterly destroy all they have, and spare them not. Slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass." (1 Samuel 15:3)
Max Blumenthal of the
Grayzone pointed out that Netanyahu's remarks "are an explicit expression of genocidal intent." He continued that the comments paint "the Palestinians of Gaza as the biblical Amalekites whose total eradication was commanded by God as punishment for their sins."
But incidentally, the same book of the Old Testament Netanyahu quoted also warned of serious consequences that befell King Saul – and could extend to the Israeli leader. God told the prophet Samuel: "I regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned back from following Me and has not performed My commandments." (1 Samuel 15:11)
The same chapter also expounded on
the prophet's warnings to King Saul, despite the monarch's petitions: "When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? And did not the Lord anoint you king over Israel?
I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel." (1 Samuel 15:17 and 26)
"As Samuel turned to leave, Saul caught hold of the hem of his robe, and it tore. Samuel said to him, 'The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to one of your neighbors – to one better than you.'" (1 Samuel 15:27-28)
