Trump vows to implement the largest domestic deportation operation in American history if re-elected as president in 2024
Former President Donald Trump has vowed to implement
"the largest domestic deportation operation in American history" if he is re-elected as president in 2024.
“Upon my inauguration, I will immediately terminate every Open Borders policy of the Biden administration. Following the Eisenhower Model, we will carry out the largest domestic deportation operation in American History," Trump vowed during a speech in Iowa. "I'll also invoke immediately the Alien Enemies Act to remove all known or suspected gang members." (Related:

In a report published by the
Christian Science Monitor in 2006, former President and World War II hero Dwight D. Eisenhower
established "Operation Wetback" on June 17, 1954, to stop around three million illegal immigrants from entering the United States and taking jobs from Americans in California, Arizona, Texas and other in the American Southwest. Eisenhower stopped illegal immigration with just 1,075 Border Patrol agents within a short period.
Eisenhower's Border Patrol agents used buses and trains to take them far into Mexico before letting them go. He also put many on ships that took them from Texas to Mexico. Many more were detained in Texas and deported by some other means, while some, afraid of getting caught, left the country on their own. To date, many Border Patrol veterans still admire this operation.
Trump talked about Eisenhower in a
Fox Business Channel event
back in 2015, when he first became the frontrunner in that year's Republican primaries. He praised Eisenhower as a good and great president even after a discussion with former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who was then advocating for amnesty to all illegal immigrants in the United States.
"People liked him. I liked Ike. [That’s the] expression. ‘I Like Ike.’ Moved a million and a half illegal immigrants out of this country, moved them just beyond the border: They came back. Moved them again, beyond the border: They came back. Then moved them way south. They never came back," Trump said at the time.
Biden's border policies pale compared to Trump's when he was still president
The U.S. immigration system has been at its worst under the administration of President Joe Biden, definitely worse off than compared to Trump. So, in one of his campaign speeches in the U.S., Trump addressed the border security issue as one of the most important to the American people.
"Under my leadership, we had the most secure border in U.S. history. Now, we have the worst border in the history of the world,” Trump declared, and he is backed by official data.
In 2022, the U.S. southern border encountered a
200 percent increase in the number of illegal immigrants from 2020. The previous year, the Trump administration had the lowest rate of illegal immigrants in over four decades. However, the current administration has been alarming, posting the highest record in over six decades.
In 2020, foreign nationals seeking entry into the U.S. through the southern border, whether illegally or without proper documentation, were returned to Mexico to await the adjudication of their legal cases. This border security program, known as the "remain in Mexico" policy, kept migrants in Mexico until their hearings.
But when Biden took over the presidency, he accused Trump as a "racist" and "xenophobic" for implementing the "remain in Mexico" policy. Biden then decided to discontinue the program, which signaled that foreigners could attempt to enter the U.S. even without proper documentation.
Furthermore, asylum seekers were required to wait in Mexico until their court hearings when Trump was still president, but the current administration implemented otherwise. With that, Trump declared himself as the “only candidate in this race who will stop it cold on DAY ONE.”
