Hunter Biden pleads NOT GUILTY to tax charges after judge raises concerns over terms of previously negotiated plea deal
Presidential son Hunter Biden has
pleaded not guilty to tax charges after United States District Judge Maryellen Noreika hesitated to accept the previously negotiated plea deal.
Noreika questioned the atypical provisions in the agreements, especially the tax deal's statute that removes the ability of the court to vet it. Additionally, the judge voiced reservations about her role in deciding whether to accept or deny the plea deal, which she believed could be a violation of the court's usual procedures.
Under the initial agreement, Hunter had intended to plead guilty to misdemeanor tax charges and avoid facing a gun-related charge. The charges alleged Hunter's failure to pay taxes on more than $1.5 million in annual income in 2017 and 2018, despite owing over $100,000 in taxes each year.
While he reportedly paid around $1 million in back taxes, prosecutors claim that he still owed at least $200,000. As for the gun charge, court documents indicate that he possessed a firearm in 2018 while being addicted to drugs and disqualified from owning a gun.

The plea deal had been seen as an opportunity for Hunter to put his legal troubles behind him. However, prosecutors had not ruled out the possibility of bringing future charges against him, including those related to foreign lobbying laws, which have been under investigation by the
Department of Justice.
The result of the three-hour-long hearing on July 26 suggests that the legal issues of Hunter persist and may potentially become a political focal point during the 2024 election. If Noreika does not approve the plea agreement, Hunter could face a trial on the existing charges against him.
McCarthy reveals possibility of Biden impeachment inquiry
Meanwhile, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) revealed the potential impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital.
During the interview, McCarthy brought attention to a
corruption scandal involving Hunter. He claimed that 16 out of 17 payments allegedly received by the Bidens from a Romanian national were funneled into what he described as "Biden shell companies" during Joe's tenure as vice president.
However, Joe has consistently denied involvement in his son's business dealings and rejected allegations of discussions related to Hunter's financial matters.
McCarthy alleged that Joe had misled the public about not receiving any money from China, and he cited whistleblowers from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and an informant for the
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) who claimed irregularities in the financial dealings of the family.
"The people of America have a right to know what went on. They have a president who lied to the American public and said they didn't get any money from China. We know that's true. We've had whistleblowers from the IRS come to say the Biden family is treated differently and that other things were going on. And then you have an informant with the FBI saying there was a bribe. We need to know the answer to this," McCarthy asserted during the interview.
The House Speaker clarified that impeachment inquiries would only be considered if Congress encountered resistance to obtaining the necessary information for their investigation. "If at any time, we weren't going to be able to get the information we needed to progress through the investigation, then we would have to rise to the level of impeachment inquiry," he explained.
