Supplementing with vitamin D can reduce the risk of dying from Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) infection by at least 25 percent, according to a paper. The study published Nov. 12 in Scientific Reports involved more than 660,000 veterans availing of medical care under the Department of Veterans Affairs. The researchers gave vitamin D2 to 220,265 participants, while 34,710 received vitamin D3 supplements. Meanwhile, 407,860 participants in the control group were not given any vitamin D supplements at all. They found that vitamin D2 was associated with a 28 percent decrease in COVID-19 infection and a 25 percent decrease in COVID-19 mortality. Meanwhile, vitamin D3 was linked to a 20 percent reduction in COVID-19 infection and a 33 percent decrease in COVID-19 mortality. Moreover, the study authors found that veterans receiving higher dosages of vitamin D obtained greater benefits than those receiving lower dosages. "Patients with lower serum levels receiving higher dosages of vitamin D3 experienced the greatest associated reduction in infection," they noted. "The most substantial dose-response relation was found in patients with the lowest vitamin D serum levels." "As a widely available, inexpensive and safe treatment, vitamin D3 could be a helpful tool for reducing the spread of COVID-19 infection and related mortality," the researchers continued, suggesting that a dosage of 50,000 international units (IU) "may be especially beneficial." The pointed out that their findings are especially relevant to the U.S. population, given that about half of Americans are estimated to have sub-optimal vitamin D serum levels.

Big Government going after doctors prescribing vitamin D against COVID-19

"In response to these findings, physicians might consider regularly prescribing vitamin D3 to patients with deficient levels [of it] to protect them against COVID-19 infection and related mortality," the authors of the Nov. 12 study wrote. However, it appears that the federal government does not take too kindly to this suggestion. In fact, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is determined to make an example of one chiropractor who prescribed vitamin D and zinc to his patients. The Epoch Times reported on Nov. 15 the predicament of St. Louis-based chiropractor Dr. Eric Nepute, who is facing $500 billion in fines for allegedly promoting vitamin D3 and zinc to address COVID-19. The FTC charged the chiropractor with more than 10 million alleged violations of the COVID-19 Consumer Protection Act of 2020 and 12 million violations of the FTC Act. Each alleged violation carries a maximum fine of more than $40,000 – adding up to a total of more than $500 billion. (Related: Dr. Eric Nepute facing $500B in FTC fines for promoting VITAMIN D3 and ZINC as COVID-19 treatments.) "No published studies prove vitamin D protects against, treats or prevents COVID-19," the FTC's complaint against Nepute stated. However, the Nov. 12 study easily debunked this claim as observed by its authors. Meanwhile, Nepute argued that his espousal of vitamin D and zinc as immune boosters drew the attention of Washington – which was promoting the COVID-19 injections as the only solution. "The federal government is suing me for half a trillion dollars for telling people to take vitamins," said the chiropractor and host of the Brighteon.TV program "Real Talk with Dr. Eric Nepute." "The only reason they're coming after me – and they said this – is because I'm the first doctor they went after and they want to set a precedent. They said they wouldn't stop until they had 'blood on their sword.' That's literally from the FTC's mouth."
