Did Google cancel the midterm election "red wave" through manipulation?

The political Right is in a tizzy right now trying to figure out why a midterm election "red wave" never actually materialized. According to Robert Epstein, PhD, the former editor-in-chief of Psychology Today, one need look no further than Google, which he says tampered with the results to manufacture a fake "blue wave" instead. Two days before the midterms, Epstein published an article warning that Google and other tech giants were "shifting millions of votes without people knowing." And in order to shift attention away from this scheme, all sorts of wild conspiracy theories were planted in the media to keep people distracted. "Over a period of months, Google nudged undecided voters toward voting blue by showing people politically biased content in their search engine, suppressing content they didn't want people to see, recommending left-leaning videos on YouTube (pdf) (which Google owns), allegedly sending tens of millions of emails to people's spam boxes, and sending go-vote reminders on their home page mainly to liberal and moderate voters," Epstein wrote in a post-election recap published by The Epoch Times. That same recap, by the way, can be accessed directly via TheMidtermsWereRigged.com. "These manipulations (and others) don't affect voters with strong points of view, but they can have an enormous impact on voters who are undecided (pdf) – the people who decide the outcomes of close elections." (Related: Remember when Google interfered in the 2020 election by censoring independent news outlets from search results?)

Google uses "ephemeral experiences" to manipulate users into thinking and voting more leftist

Epstein says he had no idea Google did any of this before verifying it himself with a "politically diverse panel of 2,742 'field agents,'" as he describes them. These folks, located mainly in swing states, were able to observe in real time how Google was altering and censoring content to manipulate the vote in those states. Leaked emails from 2018 further show that Google uses "ephemeral experiences," or content that appears briefly before disappearing, to manipulate Google users' views about various things, including Donald Trump's travel ban, which was a big controversy around that time. "They know how powerful ephemeral experiences can be," Epstein says. "That's one of the most closely held secrets of Google's management." "Ephemeral content is ideal for manipulation purposes. If you get a go-vote reminder on Google's home page (see the image below for an actual go-vote reminder sent to a liberal voter on Election Day), how would you know whether anyone else was getting it? You wouldn't, and if you didn't receive such a reminder, how would you know that anyone else had?" Epstein found that both in 2020 and 2022, Google reminded far-left voters to vote far more times than the platform reminded far-right voters to vote. Targeted vote reminders were sent out based on political leanings, in other words, to ensure the success of a contrived blue wave. "Targeted messaging of this sort is a blatant manipulation that can, on Election Day in a national election in the United States, generate 450,000 extra votes for the favored candidate," Epstein says. Epstein and his team sent Congress information about this in 2020, which resulted in Google turning off the go-vote reminder feature. However, it was back in action in 2022, particularly in swing states that Democrats really needed to "win" in order to prevent a natural red wave from occurring. "That's why the red wave fizzled – because Google had its digital thumb on the scale for months before the elections," Epstein maintains.
