Gov. Abbott invokes "invasion clauses" to defend Texas against illegal alien onslaught
Illegal immigration is so out of control in the Lone Star State that Gov. Greg Abbott has decided to
invoke "invasion clauses" that allow for an escalated response to the crisis.
In
a recent tweet, Abbott wrote that the constitutions of both the United States and Texas "fully authorize" his state to take "unprecedented measures to defend our state against an invasion."
"I'm using that constitutional authority, & other authorization & Executive Orders to keep our state & country safe," Abbott added.
The following are on Abbott's agenda now that the invasion clauses have been invoked:
- Deploying the National Guard to protect the border by repelling and turning back invaders who try to cross the border illegally
- Deploying the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to arrest and return border invaders who cross illegally, as well as arrest and charge illegals who are caught committing other crimes besides invasion
- Building a border wall in multiple Texas counties along the border of Mexico
- Designating Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations
- Entering into a compact with other states (i.e., New Mexico and Arizona) to secure the border
- Entering into agreements with "foreign powers" to enhance border security
- Providing resources for border counties in Texas to help increase their efforts to respond to the border invasion
Abbott to deploy gun boats to defend southern border against invaders
Another tool that Abbott plans to use to ward off illegal invaders are gunboats, a type of naval watercraft that, as their name suggests, carry guns to use against targets.
Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution states that the country "shall guarantee every state in this Union a republican form of government and shall protect each of them against invasion." This is half of the impetus behind Abbott's declaration.
The other half is found in the Texas Constitution, Article 4, Section 7, which states that the governor, acting as commander-in-chief of military forces, "shall have power to call forth the militia to execute the laws of the State, to suppress insurrections, and to repel invasions."
Both of these constitutional clauses underpin Abbott's actions, which the Left will likely dub as "inhumane." Even so, they appear to be necessary to protect Texas against a continued illegal onslaught that is rapidly changing the demographics and safety of the state.
As you may recall, Abbott earlier in the year announced an executive order that allows Texas law enforcement officers to return illegal aliens apprehended elsewhere in the state back to the southern border for removal. (Related: In 2021, Abbott also
deployed "Operation Lone Star" to fight illegal immigration.)
"It's a shame a Governor has to take these steps because our federal government has abdicated its responsibility to keep our borders secure and our citizens safe," one commenter wrote. "That said – Bravo, Governor Abbott."
"It will be interesting to see how the cartels respond to this," wrote another. "Just as interesting will be Biden's response. Good for Abbott. Somebody has to do something."
Many others agreed, including one man who emphasized that every state affected by illegal immigration needs to do what is necessary and ignore the federal government since it is not in cooperation.
"Each state has a right to government itself without federal overreach or interference!" this same commenter added.
Should the Biden regime come out against Abbott's moves, then it is only appropriate to dub the regime as "aiding and abetting the invasion that is and has been taking place," wrote someone else.
"And if the feds get in the way," added another, "arrest them for interference and resistance of law enforcement."
