FAMILY DEFENSE: Man shoots teenagers attempting to steal his SUV with his infant children still inside
A Houston father shot two teenagers
who attempted to steal his vehicle while his wife and two infant children were still inside.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed the incident on Twitter
, which occurred in the 6800 block of Feather Creek Drive in Houston. On July 11 just after midnight, the father, his wife and their two babies arrived home. Two teenagers, both 16 years old, then approached their SUV and opened a rear door where the couple's one-year-old child was sitting.
Gonzalez said the father, fearing for the lives of his wife and children, fired shots at the two teens
. The mother, who was in the driver's seat, drove away afterward to escape the suspects. Footage from a video doorbell captured four gunshots ringing out, with one suspect managing to walk away as his companion fell to the ground.
Soon after, a car driven by an unknown male pulled over and picked up the two would-be perpetrators. The two teenagers were taken to private hospitals for medical treatment. According to reports, both were in stable condition.
The family did not sustain any injuries.
A deputy from the Harris County Sheriff's Office who responded to the scene said an investigation into the incident is ongoing. Gonzalez did not announce any charges against the teenagers.
The incident highlighted the father's bravery in defending his family from would-be criminals
. It also emphasized self-defense and the importance of the Second Amendment. The father's quick thinking made seconds count when "the police are minutes away."
Mother who saved children from Uvalde mass shooter now being harassed
The Harris County father's story shares similarities with that of Angeli Rose Gomez from Uvalde County. The mother of two said she rushed to Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where her sons went. Salvador Ramos, the perpetrator of the mass shooting, was already on the school premises.
Gunshots and the sound of children's screams filled the air, but law enforcement who responded to the scene were doing nothing
. Gomez urged police officers to respond, but instead received threats that she would be handcuffed – she eventually was.
Gomez then told police officers she would cooperate and calm down just so she could be released. Just like the Harris County father, she sprang into action once the handcuffs were removed.
The mother of two jumped over a fence and banged on a door window, allowing her to evacuate her eldest son and some of his classmates. But Gomez's younger son was still in the school, which led her to frantically run around the school and attempt to open a closed door. Police officers were at her tail urging her to calm down, but she adamantly stood her ground and told them to evacuate the students and teachers.
Amid the commotion, her youngest son ran to her – reuniting the family.
But Gomez's bravery had made her a target of police harassment since the day of the school shooting. (Related: Mom who rescued sons during Uvalde shooting now being harassed by same coward cops who refused to act.
"The other night, we were exercising and we had a cop parked at the corner, flickering us with headlights," she recounted to FOX 29
. The harassment has led to Gomez separating from her children "just so my two sons don't feel like they have to watch cops passing by, stopping [and] parking."
