Michael Fromhold, from Florida, was stunned when he noticed that the meat at his local Walmart had been locked up in what appears to be a rather dramatic attempt to prevent people from stealing it.
Michael took a video of it and shared it to TikTok where it quickly went viral - gaining more than four million views in a matter of days - and the clip lead some viewers to lament the fact that such measures have become necessary.
The video, which showed the Angus beef wrapped in chains with an electronic security tag, comes amid growing concern about the rising crime rates across the country - something that Michael quickly lamented in his post.
"You gotta be kidding me," Michael began in the video, as he held up the mesh-wired meat. "Walmart now has the steak locked up. Holy s**t it's come to this. This is getting bad."
The Daily Mail reported that it's not clear if the little cages are being placed on expensive meat in Walmart stores around the country or if the company is merely implementing such measures in stores where crime is highest. But it's clear that if retailers want to remain in business in these cities where crime is getting rampant, they're going to have to do something to protect their merchandise.
The outlet reported that several people were shocked and dismayed by the video and Walmart's new security measures (like the retailer has any choice) in the comment section, with one person describing the current state of the country "sad."
Someone else ripped "low lives" who are "out there robbing the store," while another added, "Sorry to say, it'll only get worse as inflammation continues to rise and food shortages start to impact us."
Actually, it's "inflation," and that's true to an extent, but at this moment in time, it's 100 percent that Walmart is doing this to guard against theft, especially high-cost, low-profit items like expensive meats.
Others, of course, complained about other things -- like the cost of the meat in question and the fact that they might be a little inconvenienced in having the little cages taken off before leaving the store.
But the alternative is worse: No retailers left to even sell food because if they continue to be robbed, then they will close those locations altogether like the pharma retail chain RiteAid is doing in high-crime cities with no real prosecutors.
"People have to steal to afford to eat... It's a shame!" one misguided person posted to the video.
"I don't know which is worse - the fact that it's locked up or that it's almost $21," said another, though the package in the video contained two ribeye steaks and one ribeye dinner in a restaurant is a lot more than 21 bucks.
Other social media users who responded got it, however.
"I'm not surprised. I worked retail for many years and had regular thieves just as much as customers," one wrote.
"You would be surprised how many people try to walk out with meat," said another.
Democrat-run cities are collapsing into lawless, violent wastelands, and before long, all businesses will pull up stakes and leave because they can't afford to be robbed blind everyday.
